linens
tablecloth
Makes every meal more festive, whether it's casual or formal. A great way to add color and personality to your table. Standard sizes: 54" square, 70" round, 60" X 90", 70" X 108". Note: make sure the cloth is larger than your table so the cloth hangs over appropriately.
use: As often as you'd like: For formal occasions, a casual buffet with friends, or a romantic dinner for two.
style tips: Available in a spectrum of colors and a number of textures and materials, tablecloths are a relatively inexpensive way to change the entire look and feel of your table. Also, consider using two cloths, one over another (a square over a round, for example), of different but complementary colors.

placemats
Placemats come in all shapes, sizes, colors and materials, and can be used for both casual and formal dining events. It's often recommended to register for the same amount of place mats as place settings in dishes and flatware. Therefore, 8-12 should do.
style tips: If possible, register for a second set of placemats. Then, you'll not only have an extra set, but also the ability to create a new look by mixing & matching the two.

napkins
Available in a range of sizes, but standard are: Cocktail (6" square), Luncheon (20" square), or Dinner (24" square). We suggest registering for a few more napkins than place settings just in case.
style tips: Casual-patterned napkins are a great way to add flair to events that don't require the use of formal linen, such as luncheons, brunches, and teas. Also, think of using napkins as a decorative lining to a bread basket.
napkin ring
For use at formal dinners, holiday, or event-related times if the design is indicative of the event. Also great for outdoor bar-b-ques to keep napkins from flying away on windy days. Register for enough to complement your number of place settings for a dinner party.
style tips: Have fun with napkin rings: they come in a variety of styles from the ultra conservative, which very appropriately can be monogrammed, to the zany painted animal-shaped wood blocks.
runner
Usually used as decoration for pre-dinner settings or appetizer and cocktail tables. Also used for special holiday times and events. Runners often vary widely in size, shape and material.
style tips: Great way to add that extra splash of color on your table during meals.
table pads
Used under the tablecloth to protect the table from spills and especially hot or cold items. An essential for preserving the life of a table you cherish.
candleholder and candles
Ranging from formal silver to brightly painted ceramics, candle holders and colored candles add a certain ambience to the table atmosphere that otherwise is difficult to achieve.
use: Can be used at any time, occasion or event depending on the styles.
style tips: Use multiple small votives to create a more intimate setting, or long tapered candles to make a table and a room appear more grand.
centerpiece
Used for pre-dining decoration, but is usually removed once the meal begins, especially if it impedes the line of vision at the table.
style tips: Get creative! Flowers in a vase can be beautiful, but also think of other ways that are simple, will wow your guests, and make for great conversation. Ideas: float gardenias or candles in a decorative glass bowl. Buy small animal-shaped topiaries and create a circus. Display a goldfish in a large cylindrical vase filled with glass marbles.
place card holders
Placed at each seat, they're a way to let each guest know where they are supposed to sit. It also allows the hostess to be creative with seating, introducing people to one another, or helping to stimulate different conversations.
use: For formal seated dinner parties, fun evenings with friends, or a bridal shower.
style tips: A great way to add style to your table. Formal sterling silver looks elegant with names written in calligraphy. Use present-shaped holders for a birthday party. Or, there are lots of adorable options for a bridal shower, from sassy miniature handbags, to ceramic bride and bridesmaids.
Salt & Pepper
Available in a number of different types, from miniature individual bowls with a serving spoon for each salt and pepper, to elegant crystal shakers with a sterling top and serving tray.
use: A practical element for your table, but also another chance to put some decoration on your table and tie elements together.
style tips: Coordinate salt & pepper servers or shakers with other elements on your table. If formal, use classic sterling, crystal, or porcelain shakers. But for fun settings with friends, there's a multitude of quirky and amusing salt & pepper sets that can add a wonderful finishing touch.
