everyday flatware

Here are things to consider when registering
for flatware.

Stainless Steel Flatware:

• Generally "stains less" than other metals, but still make sure you clean and dry it properly.

• Should be of 18/8 Quality. This refers to the composition of the flatware: in this case, 18% chromium, and 8% nickel. Generally the higher percentage of nickel, the shinier the flatware's appearance.

• Costs significantly less than Sterling Silver.

Types of Flatware:

• Stainless steel flatware patterns can be similar to those found in sterling silver.

• They can also be more whimsical and trendy. Patterns can range from fun ceramic colored handles to match your kitchen or dinnerware, or even assorted shaped handles, such as bamboo.

• If you choose to register for two patterns (one formal silver and one informal flatware), think of choosing a flatware that reflects a fun side of your personality.

 tips

Stainless Steel flatware is generally dishwasher safe: knife, fork, and spoon tips should always face upwards

Don't wash your stainless with your sterling silver. The metals will compete and cause corrosion.

The spoon was the earliest known utensil: most say the first version of it was actually a shell.
